Fix of GDLive download source. Overlap between CDs 2 and 3 was eliminated in Cool Edit 2000, allowing for a seamless transition between the two - perfect for playing on hard drive or recording to DAT or DVD audio. Wavmerge was used to merge fixed d2t07/d3t01 combo file with all succeeding files on CD 3, then retracked in CDWave to compensate for "ripple effect" on sector boundaries of deleting overlap between discs 2 and 3.

First show at Red Rocks
This show was the first time for the band at Red Rocks, which was less than half the size of the previous year's McNichols Arena, in nearby Denver.

The venue became synonymous with the Dead, but even adding another show and two more in August didn't meet ticket demands - an issue that would remain for the next 16 times they played here, through '87. Though they never laid a best-ever show here, the vibe was enormous and takes a lengthy essay to describe the scene and its changes over the years as well as the things that occurred here that influenced the evolution of band and audience. This is the lesser show of the July '78 tour, though contrary to expectations (or perhaps latter-day myth-making) it has a better first set than the following day (although 7/1 has the best first half). The SBD in circ was always in mono, the octopusrider matrix added image and now we have the official release.Though it is in stereo, it has a somewhat dry, flat image, like a lot on this tour. First Set. Jer warms up and takes off with Jack Straw by the end, Candyman likewise tightens. Keith is great on Big River, but heard clearly only on the fob_knight_motb AUD. With Friend of the Devil, now we're talking, and the x-factor arrives at Cassidy (even if not 7/3). Phil is the man on Tennessee. The rest is average, with a groggy Peggy-O, until a good Music Never Stopped. Second Set. The Cold Rain & Snow and Beat it on Down the Line-7 (of course: it's 7-7) is like having two bonus songs before second set. This is all average '77 until the wonderful Dancing in the Street. "Not too fucking fast, though!" says Bobby. Though typical of the '78 versions it's actually one of the best, for the jam and the slow relinquish to Drums. Not Fade is average but has a brief Nobody's Fault quote for the close listener @~6min. There is a great solo on a perfect Black Peter. It's got a fine end jam and Donna is good. Around & Around ain't the tightest but it picks up for the double encore. 1st Set: B- 2nd Set: C+ Overall = 3¼ stars Highlights: Cassidy - for the overall effect Dancin' in the Streets - Not too fuckin' fast though!
